Ein Engel ist bei der Auferstehung Jesu anwesend. Engel galten als Abgesandte Gottes auf Erden; dieser schiebt die Tumbenplatte zur Seite, um Jesus ungehindert aus dem Grab auferstehen zu lassen. Da diese Szene nicht in der Bibel beschrieben wird, konnten sehr unterschiedliche künstlerische Variationen des Geschehens entstehen.

An angel is not always present at the resurrection of Jesus. Angels were the messengers of God on earth; He pushes the tomb plate away to let Jesus rise free from the grave. Since this scene is not described in the Bible, a lot of different artistic variations of the event were created.
