Jesus wird hier von seinen Begleitern ins Grab gelegt. Rechts oben im Hintergrund ist Golgotha zu erkennen, die Häscher hängen noch immer an ihren Kreuzen. Maria küsst die Nagelwunde an der Hand ihres Sohnes und wird von einem trauernden Johannes gestützt. Nägel und Dornenkrone gehörten zu den “arma Christi”, denen eine eigene Verehrung zuteil wurde.

Jesus is placed into the grave by his companions. Right in the background, Golgotha can be seen, the robbers are still hanging on their crosses. Maria kisses the hand nail wound of her son; she is supported by mourning John. Nails and thorns were part of the "arma Christi", which were worshipped in a separate cult.
