Dieser ist in der Mitte des Bildes, an eine Säule gefesselt, zu sehen. Um Ihn herum stehen Schergen welche ihn schlagen Hier hat man auch immer das Prophetenwort assoziiert, das “viele Hunde mich umgaben” (circumdederunt me canes multi) (Ps 21,17).

Zusätzlich zeigen zwei Männer den Gestus der überkreuzten Zeigefinger. Damit wird das Volk der Juden als die eigentlich Schuldigen am Tod Jesu gekennzeichnet. Mittelalterliche Prediger benutzten diese Darstellung oft, um gegen Juden zu hetzen.

+Bei einer sogenannten Geißel handelt es sich um eine Form der Peitsche. Sie besteht aus einem Griff an dem Riemen, zum Beispiel aus Leder, angebracht sind. Die Variante auf dieser Tafel hat zusätzlich noch in Knoten eingeflochtene Bleikugeln und an den Enden Widerhaken, um dem Verurteilten größere Verletzungen zuzufügen.

+Der hier im Hintergrund dargestellte Langspieß ist eine Waffe die zur Verteidigung eingesetzt wurde. Gegen eine Gruppe aus Spießgesellen konnte Kavallerie nur schwer anreiten. Im Gegensatz zum Speer wurde der Langspieß nicht als Wurfwaffe verwendet. Mehrere Langspieße sind als Teil der Stiftung Baumann im Dormitorium ausgestellt.

+This pike shown in the background is a defensive weapon. A band of soldiers with pikes could hardly be fought against by cavalry. Contrary to a javelin a pike was not used as a throwing weapon. Multiple pikes are exhibited as part of the “Stiftung Bauman” in the dormitory.
