Adam and Eve, the forefathers of all men, kneel before Jesus, waiting for their salvation. The paradise fruit in the hand of Eve is a symbol of the ancestral sin, which had already been reversed with the angelic greeting ("Ave") during the annunciation and the entry of Jesus into the world.
