Bei einer sogenannten Geißel handelt es sich um eine Form der Peitsche. Sie besteht aus einem Griff an dem Riemen, zum Beispiel aus Leder, angebracht sind. Die Variante auf dieser Tafel hat zusätzlich noch in Knoten eingeflochtene Bleikugeln und an den Enden Widerhaken, um dem Verurteilten größere Verletzungen zuzufügen.

A so called scourge is a variation of a whip. It’s made from a handle with attached straps, which are for example made of leather. The variant depicted on the panel is additionally equipped with interlaced lead ball knots and barbed hooks at its ends for inflicting bigger wounds to the scourged person.
